World War I - The war to end all war...? Really? In this lesson you will review the key items we have been discussing: Causes, Alliances, Trench Warfare, Weapons, and the armistice/treaty.

1. Causes: The following article(s) lists several causes of WWI. a. Briefly summarize them and b. 2. Alliances: a. Describe the two main alliances of WWI. http://histclo.com/essay/war/ww1/alli/ww1-as.html and b. Find a MAP that would depict the alliances in 1914 and paste it to your answer sheet or print it out.
3. Trench Warfare: The trenches of WWI were one of the more grueling experiences a soldier could endure. Read 2 or 3 of these primary source excerpts from soldiers in the trenches. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/memories_from_the_trenches.htm a. What strikes you about these experiences? b. What do they have in common? Use specifics from the reading.

5. Weapons: Tremendous changes in battle weapons were introduced during WWI. Take a look at the weapons described in the next article. a. 8. Scan thru the article about the Treaty of Versailles. a. Who were the three most important people negotiating the Treaty: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/treaty_of_versailles.htm b. Summarize the "attitude" and goals of each of these men toward the Germans. Use specifics from the readings.
9. a. Based on your quick review of the goals of the treaty and some of the requirements, do you think it was fair? Why/Why not? Use specifics from the readings to support your opinions.
